What is PASI?
PASI stands for Psoriasis Area and Severity Index.
A PASI score is a widely used tool by dermatologists and healthcare providers to measure the severity and extent of psoriasis. It is a helpful way to monitor your condition and understand whether a change needs to be made in how your psoriasis is managed. 1
Usually, in PASI scoring, a representative area of psoriasis is chosen for each section of the body: head and neck, arms, trunk (main part of the body, including chest, abdomen, pelvis and back) and legs. For each area, the intensity of redness, thickness, and scaling of the psoriasis is calculated. This involves estimating the percentage of the body affected, which can lead to unreliable, inconsistent results. 1,2
DermaPro has a 3D model that represents your body. You can use a paintbrush to simply draw on the model and mark the areas of psoriasis. The calculator then summarises the size and the intensity of the coverage, and accurately grades the state of the psoriasis.
What do the PASI score results mean? 3
- Equal or less than 10 = mild psoriasis
- More than 10 = moderate-to-severe psoriasis
Please note that:
- PASI is not used in children and young people 4
- Redness can easily be underestimated in people with darker skin types 4
- DermaPro may not be an accurate tool for patients with only small skin areas are involved 1
